Mud Soldiers

As I round out the end of my assignment and lease in China, I took the opportunity to spend some vacation time and travel a little bit outside of Beijing. Everything was done last minute, ticket the evening before, show up at a hotel without reservation, and no itinerary or clear plan on how to spend time as I got there. Everything fell into place quite well, and I will post the best of the photos in reduced size (50%width, 50% height) taken there over the next few days. If anyone wants the ones that didn't come out that well, or full sized of the ones I preferred and posted let me know via comment or email!

This is pit 1 of the terra cotta warriors that an emporer had his citizens build in order to take an army for protection into the afterlife. Gotta love China for these excessive emporers, they left really nice and interesting things in their present and former capitols. I don't think the forbidden city and the like could be built without a whole nation's resources supporting the project.
